Abstract

The 21st century is characterized by rapid technological advancements that have significantly transformed the educational landscape. The traditional teacher-centered approach is gradually giving way to learner-centered pedagogies that emphasize functionality, practicality, collaboration, and real-world relevance. This paper examines how functional pedagogy, which aligns teaching methods with learners' needs, societal expectations, and workplace demands, can be strengthened through the integration of educational technology (Edu-Tech). The study discusses relevant concepts, theories, and models that support technology integration in education, including Constructivist Learning Theory, Experiential Learning Theory, and the Passive Interactive Creative Replacement Amplification Transformation (PICRAT) model. In addition, the paper reviews various functional pedagogical approaches in the digital age and explains how technology can be integrated into these methods to improve teaching and learning outcomes. The benefits of harnessing educational technology for effective learning are highlighted, particularly in the areas of learner engagement, collaboration, inclusivity, accessibility, and skill development. The paper also examines the major challenges associated with integrating Edu-Tech into functional pedagogy, such as infrastructural deficits, inadequate teacher preparedness, high costs of technology, and issues relating to equity and accessibility. Furthermore, best practices and strategies for effective integration are discussed, alongside relevant case studies and practical applications. The paper concludes that the thoughtful integration of educational technology into functional pedagical practices can transform learning environments into more innovative, inclusive, and effective spaces that prepare learners for lifelong learning and active participation in the digital society.
